PHRAGMIPEDIUM

These ladies slipper look a lot like the Paphiopedilum genus. They tend to grow in wet conditions by a stream for example, and come from Mexico,  and Central/South America.

Culture: pure water (i.e. distilled, rain, RO) only, PH 5.5-7 (too low ph and plants get rot), no dry spell, high nitrogen fertilizer but avoid full strength! East window, seedlings less light than mature plants who can handle medium to high light. Grow best in intermediate conditions, but best flower color appears in cooler conditions with bright light. Intermediate temps: day=70-85F, night=60-65F; Cool temps: day=60-70F, night=55-60F.

Repot about once a year to refresh the mix as the wet conditions deteriorates the mix more quickly.  Bark mix with powdered limestone, perlite, charcoal, and peat/coco based on conditions (humid/wet conditions probably wont' require moss/coco but in dry conditions at home, it's a good idea.).  Can also use Miracle Grow House Plant Mix added to bark. The fertlizer in it lasts about 6 months. Recommend Rand's Aircone pot.

For plants grown in bark, only stand in water with plants that have established roots. Otherwise, water frequently with free drainage. Source: Jason Fischer www.orchidweb.com

Test PH, doesn't like alkaline.
